Kirk Van Linden, 68, of Bloomington, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on February 10, 2026, due to complications from a recent heart procedure. He was a loving father, grandfather, and brother, and will be missed by many. He was born to James E. and Betty Jo (Hanson) Van Linden on August 1, 1957, in Flint, Michigan.
Kirk grew up in Michigan and graduated from Clio in 1975. He married his high school sweetheart, Ruth Miller, on July 16, 1977.
After moving to Utah, Kirk worked as an underground coal miner. It was demanding and difficult work, and he met it with the determination and work ethic needed to provide for his family. After leaving the coal mines, Kirk became self-employed and pursued many business ventures over the years. His favorite was buying and selling, something he genuinely enjoyed and was naturally good at.
Kirk enjoyed working on and racing cars as a young man and had a love and proficiency for bowling, which he passed on to his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors with his family, including many early-morning hunting excursions. He was an avid animal lover and owned dogs most of his life.
His most recent adventures included moving from Utah to Texas and taking cruises with his sister, Teri, experiences he truly enjoyed and valued.
Kirk never met a stranger he didn’t befriend and was passionate about helping those who were down on their luck or just needed a helping hand or mentor. Many people have said he was “like an uncle” to them.
Family was the most important thing to Kirk. He loved deeply and with his whole heart. He took great pleasure in supporting his kids and grandkids in all of their endeavors.
Kirk is survived by his children, Kelly (Mario De Boel) Jones, Kirk J. (Sarah Baker) Van Linden, and Sherry (James)Sorensen. He was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren, Carolyn (Asher) Purcell, Kassie Battle, Kolby Sorensen, Nate (London) Sorensen, Daxton Sorensen, Kaden Sorensen, Connor De Boel, and Ethan De Boel, and one great-grandchild, Calvin Purcell. Kirk is also survived by his sister, Teri Van Linden, who was by his side when he passed. He also leaves behind his favorite uncle, Ron Van Linden, and a special nephew, Raymond (Betty) Still, as well as many more nieces, nephews, family, and friends who will remember him fondly.
He was preceded in death by his wife and his parents.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Copeland and the ICU staff at DeTar Hospital Navarro for the exceptional care and support they provided.
Funeral services are in the compassionate care of Castle Valley Funerals & Cremations, date and time are pending.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Road Home in Salt Lake City or a favorite charity.
