Obituary

HUNTINGTON- Kendall A Mortensen, age 86, passed away on October 6, 2026, at Castleview Hospital in Price, Utah.

He was born on August 1, 1940, in Emery, Utah, to Eldred L. and Mabel A. Mortensen.

Kendall married his sweetheart, Geraldine Marie Anderson, on November 22, 1963, in the Manti Utah Temple. Together they built a life centered around family, faith, education, and service. Kendall lovingly cared for Geraldine through her long battle with dementia, remaining devoted to her with patience, tenderness, and unwavering love until her passing in 2019.

Kendall was a graduate of South Emery High School, Brigham Young University, and the University of North Dakota. He dedicated more than 30 years of his life to teaching junior high science, mathematics, and computer science in Monticello, Green River, and for the majority of his career in Huntington, Utah. He was a master teacher who took great pride in helping young people learn, grow, and develop a love for understanding the world around them.

His long career in education was an important part of his life, and the many students he taught became part of a lasting legacy which continues through his own family. Kendall was the proud father of four children, Amanda, Kaisa, Kari, and Eric, all of whom followed in his footsteps and became teachers themselves.

Kendall was especially proud of his eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He took every opportunity to support them and was willing to travel great distances to be present for their important moments, activities, milestones, and accomplishments. Through his faith, kindness, hard work, and service, Kendall became an incredible example to the generations that follow him.

Faith was at the heart of Kendall’s life. He devoted himself wholeheartedly to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and to living the teachings of Jesus. He served as a missionary in the Western Canada Mission and faithfully fulfilled many callings throughout his life. For Kendall, serving others was much more than an assignment or responsibility. It was a way of life. He was a kind and compassionate man who truly tried each day to live what he believed through obedience and quiet service.

Kendall had the kindest heart and a remarkably generous spirit. He shared everything he had with the people he loved and was always willing to help someone in need. Through his time, talents, and resources, Kendall found ways to make life a little better for those around him. He gave without seeking recognition and loved without reservation.

Kendall had a beautiful voice. He sang with the Huntington Glee Club for more than 50 years, sharing his musical gifts and distinctive narrative voice with the community he loved.

Kendall deeply loved studying family history and doing temple work. He spent countless hours researching his family heritage and enjoyed discovering and preserving the stories of those who came before him. He also loved helping others discover their own family histories and spent time each week working at the Family History Center. His commitment to this work expressed his deep appreciation for the sacrifices of his ancestors, his hopes for his posterity and his unwavering desire to connect generations.

Kendall was meticulous about recording the story of his own life. He kept detailed journals of his daily activities, beginning in the early 1980s and continuing right up until last Monday night when he no longer could. These journals reflect his belief that the ordinary moments of life, as well as the important ones, were worth remembering and preserving. He left his family a treasured record of his day-to-day life and the world as he experienced it.

Kendall’s greatest legacy will be found in the lives he touched through his faith, kindness, and generosity. He leaves behind a family who loves him dearly. We will miss his guidance, support, and steadiness in our lives.

Kendall is survived by his sister-in-law, Ruth Mortensen; sister, Kaye Peacock Boggess (David); brother, Lynn (Helen) Mortensen; and sister Lynne’ (Randy) Lake. He is also survived by his four children, Amanda (Darin) Linford of Evanston, Wyoming, Kaisa Mortensen of Salt Lake City, Utah, Kari Mortensen of Alamo, Nevada, and Eric (Jennifer) Mortensen of Huntington, Utah. He leaves behind his eight grandchildren, Kyla (Andy), Geoffrey (Kaley), Jade, Noah (Mary), Hannah, Aidan (Campbell), Alexia, and Myles; and his three great-grandchildren: Cash, Mila, and Gwen. He was so proud of and cherished each one of them.

Kendall was preceded in death by his beloved sweetheart, Geraldine; his parents, Eldred and Mabel Mortensen; and his brother, Stuart Mortensen.

In lieu of flowers, we invite you to do something that brought Kendall great joy: pay for someone's lunch, fill someone's gas tank, help with someone’s groceries, take care of a loved one, or simply find a way to make someone's day a little easier. If you prefer, consider making a donation to the humanitarian efforts of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. You can honor Kendall by continuing the simple acts of kindness and service that defined his life.
