Keith B Lake

June 30, 1943 — May 12, 2026

Keith B. Lake finished his mortal mission on earth on May 12, 2026 at the age of 82. He passed peacefully in his home in Castle Dale, Utah in the presence of his loving wife of almost 65 years.

Keith was born June 30, 1943 to George Berdell and Geneva Mazie Marshall Lake in Castle Dale, Utah where he grew up in a happy family with his twelve siblings (two siblings passed away young). His passion for electronics began at a young age when he built his first radio from a kit he received for Christmas. This interest would lead to his future career in building and repairing electronics and various radio equipment. He married his high school sweetheart, Genevieve Humphrey on September 23, 1961 in Orangeville, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple on November 17, 1962. They moved to Salt Lake City where he received training as an electronics technician during which time they had their first two kids. The remaining five of their seven children were born while he worked at the Tooele Army Depot. While working there he was afforded an opportunity to travel to Germany to install a radio system with a handful of co-workers. They arrived a few weeks before the radios that came by boat so they were able to spend a few weeks exploring the country and trying to become fluent in German. In 1978 the Lake family was able to move home to “Lakeville” within Castle Dale city limits and Keith began a career with Utah Power and Light. In his spare time he and his brothers owned and operated the local branch of Radio Shack. His basement was full of repaired TVs, radios, and other electronics, tools, and various testing equipment. The garage was always adorned with antennas, towers, and other larger radio parts. The Lakes never had to call a repair man for the household appliances. Keith also learned carpentry, auto mechanics, welding and other useful skills largely from his father who lived just a stone’s throw away. He installed and ran radio towers for many years to service two-way communications throughout the Castle Valley.

Anyone in Castle Dale 2nd ward will recall Brother Lake sitting at the Clerk desk in the chapel for most of their lives. He served in several Bishoprics, Elder’s Quorum presidencies, and Stake High Councils. Keith and Geneveive served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Atlanta Georgia Mission from 2013-2015. After their mission they served in the Manti Temple for seven years and a service mission teaching addiction recovery. He found great joy in any opportunity to teach the gospel and serve the Lord. He also loved BYU football but as his heart began to have problems later in his life, Geneveive banned games from being screened when he was near. His heart just couldn’t handle the excitement. There is a chance that there may have been an infraction or two.

Keith loved the outdoors. He was often found in the local deserts and mountains camping, hunting, and fishing. Camping with his family especially during the annual Lake Reunion was a highlight in his life.

Family was everything to Keith. He had a great love for each member of his large family. Not only was Keith part of a large posterity, but he had a sizable one of his own. Between his seven children, 43 grandchildren (including spouses) and 36 great-grandchildren, there were plenty of subjects for him to test his vast library of Dad jokes on. He had such a unique sense of humor and a laugh that will be remembered by all who knew him.

Keith was preceded in death by his parents, George Berdell and Geneva Lake, and his siblings Billie Jean, Jimmie, Johnny Ray, Marlin, and Derrell. He is survived by his beautiful wife and eternal companion Geneveive, seven of his 12 siblings and their spouses, his children Belinda Peacock (Bert) of Orangeville, Utah, Boyd (Stacie) of Leander, Texas, Wade (Lisa) of West Haven, Utah, Dale (Rachel) of Spring Hill, Kansas, Sheryl Cole (Michael) of Herriman, Utah, Kenneth (April) of Delta, Colorado, Joshua (Ginnie) of Delta Colorado, with 43 grandchildren (including spouses), and 36 great-grandchildren.
